Американский (эмигрировал в США из Германии в 1877 г.) ихтиолог, специалист в области систематики и распространения пресноводных рыб Южной Америки, профессор Университета Индианы.

Континентальные мосты суши в Южной Америке (Eigenmann, 1909a, закономерности распространения пещерной фауны Америки (Eigenmann, 1909b), неблагоприятные последствия строительства Панамского канала (Eigenmann, 1914, 1922).
