Американский эколог, малаколог и энтомолог. В 1926–1943 гг. – директор Государственного музея Нью-Йорка.

Центры распространения биоты на территории США, постгляциальные реликты. Обосновал (Adams, 1913) выделение специальной отрасли знаний – "агрегатной экологии", объектом изучения которой является та или иная таксономическая единица или же единица, основанная на семейственном родстве (пчелиный улей, колония шмелей и проч.).
